Early in the morning on last Sunday, March 11th, a man from Rockledge was riding on his motorcycle along I-95 in Brevard County when he collided with the rear of a semi truck. A deadly accident took place this past Saturday in Marion County after an SUV collided with the rear end of a motorcycle and threw the cyclist off of the bike and onto the road. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol issued a statement regarding the evening crash in Ocala that described how Reid, a 64-year-old Ocala resident, was driving his motorcycle in the northbound lanes of County Road 200 close to 7:30 in the evening. A man was killed recently when his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating the accident have not released the name or address of the victim but say that he was 47 years old and lived in the Orlando metropolitan area. Troopers say that the truck was westbound on Principal Row around 6 a.m. when it attempted to turn into a driveway. The motorcyclist was traveling behind the truck, and, when the truck slowed, the rider accelerated and tried to pass the semi on the right side. When the truck began turning into the driveway, the rider collided with the cab and was partially run over. The rider was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. The truck driver, a 34-year-old Orlando man, was not injured in the accident. The FHP investigation is still ongoing, and no charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating a fatal motorcycle accident report that an Odessa motorcyclist was killed when a car crossed the centerline into her lane, forcing her to collide with the side of the car. Troopers say the 59-year-old victim was riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on US 27/US 19 when a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 51-year-old Greenville man violated her right of way by drifting into oncoming traffic. Troopers say the victim had little or no time to avoid the accident and collided with the left front side of the car.
An Orlando woman riding her motorcycle on the morning of August 25 died from injuries she suffered when her motorcycle was struck from behind. Accident investigators say the victim was riding her 2003 Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Clarcona Ocoee Road near Shale Ridge Trail shortly after 8 a.m. and had slowed for traffic in front of her when she was struck by a 2004 Nissan pickup truck. Witnesses say the 24-year-old man driving the truck made no effort to stop before striking the victim and the impact caused the victim to become trapped in the wreckage. She was reportedly dragged hundreds of feet before the truck came to a stop.
Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in a fatal motorcycle accident that claimed the life of an Apopka man on June 5. Police say the 37-year-old suspect was driving his van out of the Loyal Order of Moose lodge parking lot near Orange Blossom Trail and Rosamond Drive around 9:00 that evening when the accident occurred.

A Florida Central News article reports that officials with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a recent five-vehicle accident in Lakeland that claimed the lives of three people. FHP officials say that the accident occurred around 4 pm on U.S. Highway 98 just south of Rockridge Road when a Chevrolet pickup truck crashed head-on with a motorcycle. They say the pickup was driven by a 65-year-old woman who veered into the path of a motorcycle operated by a 55-year-old man.
A man accused of hitting and killing a motorcyclist while driving drunk has entered a not guilty plea to DUI manslaughter charges. This article in the Sun Sentinel reports that the man has a long history of negligent behavior behind the wheel, including a hit-and-run accident, drunk driving convictions, high-speed police chases and many traffic citations. By the time the 31-year-old man was arrested in Miramar in September 2009 and charged with killing a motorcyclist while driving under influence of alcohol, there was a warrant for his arrest in connection with two DUI cases in Maryland. A recent article published in the East Volusia news discusses how the family of local businessman, motorcycle rider and charity organizer, Bruce Rossmeyer, is carrying on the family tradition of leading a charity motorcycle ride. The family said that the late Bruce Rossmeyer was especially enthusiastic about this year’s huge motorcycle ride to raise money for the children’s healthcare facility, Camp Boggy Creek. Rossmeyer’s family said that part of his enthusiasm stemmed from that fact that this year’s ride would be the 15th Annual Ride for Children. They said another reason Rossmeyer looked forward to this year’s ride was that the benefit was nearing the $4 million mark in money raised for the facility since the event began in 1994.
A 45-year-old Jupiter man was killed recently in an early morning motorcycle accident after a pickup truck pulled out in front of him. As reported in the Sun-Sentinel, the accident happened before dawn on Indiantown Road just west of Interstate 95 near Taylor Road. The FHP spokesperson, Lt. Frith, said that the victim was wearing a helmet and protective lenses when he was killed. One eastbound lane of Indiantown Road was closed for two hours after the motorcycle accident occurred.
