Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating a fatal motorcycle accident report that an Odessa motorcyclist was killed when a car crossed the centerline into her lane, forcing her to collide with the side of the car. Troopers say the 59-year-old victim was riding her Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on US 27/US 19 when a 1997 Chevrolet Camaro driven by a 51-year-old Greenville man violated her right of way by drifting into oncoming traffic. Troopers say the victim had little or no time to avoid the accident and collided with the left front side of the car.
The victim was pronounced dead from her injuries at the accident scene, and the driver of the Camaro was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Troopers say the driver may face multiple charges, and they are waiting for the results of toxicology tests.
This tragic accident and the events that led to it are very familiar to Orlando motorcycle accident attorney James O. Cunningham. He has helped countless injured riders since he opened his Central Florida law practice in 1977, and, in his nearly four decades of practicing law, he has built many successful cases against negligent drivers who violate riders’ rights of way by pulling in front of them or crossing into their lane. Riders injured in these accidents often suffer horrific, debilitating injuries that impact their quality of life. Some of these injuries include the following:
- Traumatic brain injuries
- Spinal injuries
- Disfigurement
- Deep lacerations
- Compound bone fractures
- Amputations
- Other catastrophic injuries
These and other injuries often require weeks of hospital care and months of rehabilitative care, and the costs quickly climb into the hundreds of thousands of dollars. In many cases, injured riders and their families seek the counsel of an experienced Orlando personal injury attorney like Mr. Cunningham to help them seek damages to help pay these expenses. Damages awarded in court or negotiated through a settlement can help injured riders provide for their families and pay for living expenses while they are unable to work.
