Manhole on Orlando’s Illinois Street Still Not Repaired

May 24, 2017

It seems that a manhole cover located along the 1200 block of Orlando’s Illinois Street has torn the bottom off of yet another vehicle.  This latest incident happened to a woman named Shirley Wang as she was navigating her Mini Cooper down Illinois Street.  She reports that there were a few garbage cans placed further out in the street than expected and she maneuvered her car around them.  Unfortunately, in her attempt at redirection, she drove her car directly over a manhole cover that many people claim to be far higher off of the asphalt than is safe.  Wang said that she heard a loud scraping and grating sound along the bottom of her car.  When she exited the vehicle to check on the situation, she saw that her transmission as well as a few other parts of her vehicle had been ripped off by the manhole.    Read the rest »

Car Crashes into Motorcycle in Orlando, Flees Scene

May 23, 2017

On Friday, a man driving near where OBT and the Central Florida Parkway intersect collided with a motorcycle.  The impact of the collision caused the bike to break in half and badly injured the driver of the motorcycle.  Rather than stop after the collision, the driver of the vehicle sped away, forcing the Florida Highway Patrol to track him down.  This, however, proved to be less difficult than it appeared as the driver responsible for the initial collision was discovered only a half-mile away from site of the accident.  He had, in his attempt to flee, collided with an electrical pole.  Similarly to the impact with the motorcycle, the collision between the car and the pole resulted in the pole breaking in half.   Read the rest »

Orlando Accident Between Moped and Lynx Bus Kills One

May 23, 2017

Close to 1:00 in the morning on Saturday two individuals were riding on a moped southward on Pine Hills Road when they crashed into a Lynx bus that was traveling north on the same street. According to a report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, the moped’s lights were not illuminated at the time of the accident, which meant that the driver of the bus—who has not been named and is currently not facing any charges—was unable to see them.
