On Sunday morning, several cars along State Road 44, close to the intersection of Pioneer Trail, were involved in a car accident that left one person dead and another hospitalized. The details of the situation are so far murky, however there is a report from the Florida Highway Patrol that gives the public a general outline of the circumstances surrounding the incident and some of the most pertinent facts about the individuals involved. FHP Sgt. Struck, Killed While Assisting Alachua County Crash

Sgt. William Trampass Bishop, a member of the Florida Highway Patrol, was in the process of responding to a crash between two cars along Alachua County’s stretch of I-75 when he was struck and killed by another vehicle. The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has issued a statement regarding the incident in which they discuss the circumstances leading to the death of this beloved police force veteran. According to the statement, Sgt. Bishop had arrived at the scene of the first crash around 6:30 in the evening and was in the process of assisting the other first responders in southbound I-75’s emergency lane. Read the rest »

Crash near Disney Springs Sends Three to Hospitals

This past Saturday, several individuals were driving past Disney Springs near Lake Buena Vista when they crashed on East Buena Vista Drive. The accident reportedly took place close to the Orange parking garage, although it was not clear whether or not any of the cars involved were leaving or entering the garage. The official statement issued by Reedy Creek Emergency Services, which includes the Reedy Creek Fire Department, indicates that the collision took place around 6:30 in the evening and involved three separate vehicles. Gainesville Mom Arrested on DUI

This past Saturday night, a Gainesville woman was pulled over after police were alerted to her erratic driving. According to the witness who called the police at around 10:30 in on Saturday night, a car was seen weaving around the road, several times leaving the road and driving along the sidewalk, and narrowly missing other cars. The witness who called the police began to follow the car as it turned off of Northwest 6th Street onto West University Avenue, but after the car sped through a red light the witness wisely abandoned pursuit. Woman Arrested in Ormond Beach Hit-and-Run

An Ormond Beach woman was arrested on Friday night in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place only hours earlier. According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s report, the 25-year-old Jessica Struthers was on her way home from work when she claims she stopped in at a bar for a drink. Struthers statement to the police alleges that she consumed one mixed drink and two shots during a two-hour period of time and that afterwhich she left the bar to go home. Read the rest »

Kids in “Critical Condition” After Silver Springs Crash

This past Sunday, the intersection in Silver Springs between East Highway 40 and Southeast 196th Terrace Road was the site of an accident between two cars that sent numerous people, including four children, to the hospital. Polk City Woman Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Sgt. Kim Montes, the spokesperson for the Florida Highway Patrol, has released partial details about a crash that occurred in Orange County this past Sunday that left one individual dead. The details, while scant, paint a partial picture of the events, although it is likely that the friends and loved ones of the victim will be looking for more answers in the days and weeks to come. What is known is that Jay Tackett, a 59-year-old from Polk City, was driving their motorcycle along State Road 417. Seated behind him on the bike was Dorrie Tackett, also a 59-year-old Polk City resident. For reasons that are not clear at the time of this writing, Jay Ticket decided to change lanes. Pedestrian Struck by Jeep at Orange County Intersection

A crash between a pedestrian and a Jeep SUV that took place in Orange County on Monday evening is still under investigation by the Orlando Police Department as they attempt to unravel the events of the evening and the situation that led to the accident which left one person dead. According to the report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol, Jesus Magadan Palacios was walking across the intersection of Oak Ridge Road and Defiance Avenue at around 9:10 on Monday evening when he was struck by the Jeep. It is not known where Palacios was coming from, nor is it clear where he was headed. The only facts of the case that are confirmed are that Palacios, a 23-year-old from Orlando, was killed in the crash. Read the rest »

Fleeing Traffic Stop, 15-Year-Old Dies in Ormond Beach

Very early on Wednesday morning, Joseph Jay Wixted, a 15-year-old from Holly Hill, was driving a red Chrysler Sebring along North Nova Road in Ormond Beach when a deputy from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department attempted to pull him over during a routine traffic stop.   Read the rest »

Volusia County Deputy Injured after Being Dragged by Car

An officer with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office suffered minor injuries this past Sunday after a driver pulled over in a routine traffic stop attempted to flee while the officer’s hand was inside the vehicle.  According to the official statement, Deputy William Kretzer was on duty on Sunday when he pulled over the 27-year-old LaRodney Bennett on North Center Street in Pierson after Bennett was clocked breaking the speed limit.  During the procedure, Kretzer discovered two outstanding warrants for Bennett’s arrest.  Kretzer exited his vehicle and approached Bennett’s car.
