One Killed in Early Morning Crash in Volusia County
Around 3:30 in the morning on Saturday, a Dodge pickup was driving west on U.S. Highway 92 in Volusia County. For reasons that are not immediately clear, the driver of this pickup, a 27-year-old man named Justin Wagner, activated the hazard lights of the van and began to make a turn off of the highway onto the right shoulder of the road. While in the process of leaving the highway, Wagner was suddenly jarred out of his plans when his car was struck from behind by van, causing both vehicles to receive a tremendous amount of damage. Three People Seriously Injured in Trucking Accident Near Eustis
Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a trucking accident that seriously injured three people on Jan. 11. They report that the accident occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of S.R. 44A and Forestdel Drive when a car driven by a 22-year-old DeLand man turned into the path of a tractor-trailer. The driver and two passengers, the driver’s 43-year-old father and a 44-year-old man, were airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they are being treated for undisclosed injuries. The accident closed S.R. 44A while troopers conducted their investigation, and the road was reopened a few hours after the accident. Troopers say that charges are pending in connection with the accident.

Orlando police officers closed two lanes of Interstate 4 recently after a semi truck jack-knifed, causing an accident that sent one person to an area hospital with injuries. Police say that the recent accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-4 south of Universal Boulevard. They report that the driver lost control of his rig and that it jack-knifed, causing it to strike a tree in the median and stall traffic past Sand Lake Road. The collision caused a fuel tank on the truck to rupture, and emergency crews had to spray fire retardant around the accident scene.
Orlando Motorcyclist Killed in Collision With Tractor-Trailer
A man was killed recently when his motorcycle collided with a tractor-trailer on Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando. Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating the accident have not released the name or address of the victim but say that he was 47 years old and lived in the Orlando metropolitan area. Troopers say that the truck was westbound on Principal Row around 6 a.m. when it attempted to turn into a driveway. The motorcyclist was traveling behind the truck, and, when the truck slowed, the rider accelerated and tried to pass the semi on the right side. When the truck began turning into the driveway, the rider collided with the cab and was partially run over. The rider was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. The truck driver, a 34-year-old Orlando man, was not injured in the accident. The FHP investigation is still ongoing, and no charges have been filed in connection with the accident.
Two Florida Trucking Accidents Close Nearly All Lanes of Interstate 95
Two separate accidents involving tractor-trailers closed nearly all northbound and all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Palm Beach recently and sent three people to area hospitals with undisclosed injuries. The first accident occurred around 9:31 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 near 45th Street when a sudden downpour caused a chain reaction accident in very heavy traffic. Florida Highway Patrol troopers are still conducting their investigation, but they say that this accident involved at least five passenger vehicles and a tractor-trailer. Two people were injured in this chain reaction trucking accident.
One Killed, Three Injured in Horrific Florida Trucking Accident
One man was killed and three others injured recently in a horrific chain reaction accident involving three tractor-trailers, a Jeep and a passenger car. Florida Highway Patrol troopers described a very grim accident scene where the passenger car was wedged beneath one of the trailers and the Jeep was smashed between the two big rigs. Troopers say the accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. when one of the semis, driven by an Orlando man, rear-ended one of the passenger cars and drove it into the other vehicle. The force of impact then caused the truck to push the passenger vehicles into the other trucks.
New Program Announced to Curb Unsafe Driving Involving Trucks and Buses
The Gainesville Sun reports that two Florida agencies have joined together to promote driving safety through a statewide traffic education and enforcement campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of large commercial trucks and school buses. Col. John Czernis, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, and Col. David Dees of the Department of Transportation’s Office of Motor Carrier Compliance, head the joint traffic safety initiative. Their goal is to save lives by increasing awareness about unsafe driving acts and habits that often cause auto accidents involving commercial vehicles.
