Five-Vehicle Florida Car Accident Kills Three

A Florida Central News article reports that officials with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating a recent five-vehicle accident in Lakeland that claimed the lives of three people. FHP officials say that the accident occurred around 4 pm on U.S. Highway 98 just south of Rockridge Road when a Chevrolet pickup truck crashed head-on with a motorcycle. They say the pickup was driven by a 65-year-old woman who veered into the path of a motorcycle operated by a 55-year-old man.

Orlando Hit-and-Run Accident Claims Woman’s Life

A recent WESH Orlando report claims that a woman was killed in an Orlando hit-and-run accident in early September 2009. Law enforcement officials investigating the accident say that the victim was struck and killed on the side of Goldenrod Road and the motorist who hit the woman fled from the scene. Police officials say that the Orlando hit-and-run accident occurred around 3 am when the driver of one car and the occupants of a black Nissan Altima were arguing with each other.

There’s Nothing Funny about Drunken Naked Motorcycle Riders

A humorous and ostensibly harmless trend among some Florida motorcycle riders has also shown a troublesome and negligent side. Recently, law enforcement officials have caught a number of Florida riders operating their bikes without any clothes on. Naked motorcycle riding might present a hazard for distracted drivers, but in some cases these riders are operating their bikes under the influence of alcohol and that is a far greater concern. According to Ocala police, the first incident occurred in mid-September when an officer pulled over a drunken rider. Read the rest »

Three People Killed in Car Accident

An article published on TheLedger.com reports that a man, a pregnant woman and an infant were killed in mid-September on U.S. 27 near Davenport. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that the infant had suffered critical injuries and was flown to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando, but died later in the evening. Officials investigating the accident say that the accident occurred around 6:40 in the evening when a car turning east at U.S. 27 onto Citrus Ridge Drive was struck by a van headed north on U.S. 27.

Florida Motorcycle Accident Caused by Drunk Driver Kills One

A man accused of hitting and killing a motorcyclist while driving drunk has entered a not guilty plea to DUI manslaughter charges. This article in the Sun Sentinel reports that the man has a long history of negligent behavior behind the wheel, including a hit-and-run accident, drunk driving convictions, high-speed police chases and many traffic citations. By the time the 31-year-old man was arrested in Miramar in September 2009 and charged with killing a motorcyclist while driving under influence of alcohol, there was a warrant for his arrest in connection with two DUI cases in Maryland. Rossmeyer Family Keeps Charity Motorcycle Ride Going Before Biketoberfest

A recent article published in the East Volusia news discusses how the family of local businessman, motorcycle rider and charity organizer, Bruce Rossmeyer, is carrying on the family tradition of leading a charity motorcycle ride. The family said that the late Bruce Rossmeyer was especially enthusiastic about this year’s huge motorcycle ride to raise money for the children’s healthcare facility, Camp Boggy Creek. Rossmeyer’s family said that part of his enthusiasm stemmed from that fact that this year’s ride would be the 15th Annual Ride for Children. They said another reason Rossmeyer looked forward to this year’s ride was that the benefit was nearing the $4 million mark in money raised for the facility since the event began in 1994.

Pensacola Police Investigate Van for Possible Link to Pedestrian Accident

Pensacola police officers have searched a damaged GMC van in an effort to find evidence that might link it to a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident that occurred on Sept. 9, 2009. This Pensacola News Journal article reported that the 52-year-old victim was struck and killed while walking along Cervantes Street near H Street in Pensacola.

Florida Bicycle Accident Kills Umatilla Woman

An article published in the Daily Commercial reports that a 49-year-old Umatilla woman was struck and killed while riding her bicycle recently. The Florida Highway Patrol said that the woman was struck from behind by a 2008 Toyota that threw her from her bike. She was taken to Florida Hospital Waterman where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. Law enforcement officials investigating the accident say that charges are pending against the 55- year-old driver of the Toyota-also from Umatilla-who told police that the glare from the sun prevented her from seeing the bicyclist.

Jupiter Man Struck and Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A 45-year-old Jupiter man was killed recently in an early morning motorcycle accident after a pickup truck pulled out in front of him. As reported in the Sun-Sentinel, the accident happened before dawn on Indiantown Road just west of Interstate 95 near Taylor Road. The FHP spokesperson, Lt. Frith, said that the victim was wearing a helmet and protective lenses when he was killed. One eastbound lane of Indiantown Road was closed for two hours after the motorcycle accident occurred.

Truck with Improperly Secured Cargo Causes Chain Reaction Accident

September 17, 2009

An article published in the Orlando Sentinel describes a chain reaction accident that occurred in July 2009 when a semi truck’s improperly secured cargo caused cars to collide while drivers attempted to avoid the debris. Among the more unusual aspects of the accident was a car bumper with a 15-inch kitchen knife embedded in it that was part of the truck’s cargo. According to law enforcement officials investigating the car accidents, the chain reaction crash occurred on S.R. 520 near Bellevue Way.
