Florida Bicycle Accident Kills Lifelong Public Servant

Recently, a SUV struck and killed LeRoy Collins Jr., a retired rear admiral and submariner in the U.S. Navy, department head for Governor Charlie Crist and son of former Florida Governor LeRoy Collins. Collins, 75, was riding his bike at 6 a.m. one morning in Tampa when the SUV struck him. Collins was Gov. Crist’s Executive Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Crist interrupted a Cabinet meeting in the Capitol to make the announcement, drawing audible gasps from many in attendance.

Autistic Girl Hospitalized in Orlando Pedestrian Accident

August 10, 2010

An autistic six-year-old girl is in the hospital and clinging to life after a car struck and severely injured her on the evening of July 28. A spokesman with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said the pedestrian accident occurred on Tivoli Drive in Deltona. The investigation into the pedestrian accident is ongoing, but early reports claim the little girl ran out of a house and into the path of a passing vehicle. First responders airlifted the girl to Arnold Palmer Hospital, and her condition is unknown.

Local Man Killed in Central Florida Motorcycle Accident

A recent central Florida motorcycle accident has claimed the life of a 19-year-old former student and football player at Lake Brantley High School. The accident remains under investigation, but police say it occurred on the evening of July 12. Investigators say a car heading south on North Hunt Club Boulevard in Seminole County attempted to turn left onto Winchester Place, turning in front of the man riding a Suzuki who was traveling north. The motorcyclist did not have time to take evasive action and struck the side of the car.

Orlando Toyota Recall Accident Attorney Concerned About Newest Toyota Recall

The world’s largest automaker has announced another in what has become a long series of recalls to replace parts that have caused accidents, injuries and deaths. The latest recall affects 412,000 Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold in the U.S. and addresses steering problems that can cause the steering to lock up unexpectedly. Toyota has recalled 373,000 Toyota Avalon sedans and 39,000 Lexus 470 SUVs to correct a defective part in the steering assembly.

Central Florida Auto Accident Closes Eastbound Lanes of Interstate 4

Florida Highway Patrol officers closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 in Volusia County recently due to wreckage from an auto accident. Accident investigators say the accident occurred on July 30 near mile marker 121 in DeLand near State Routes 44 and US 92 East. Eastbound lanes were open again around 1:35 p.m. after the investigation was complete and the scene was clear of debris. The FHP did not officially release details about the accident, but officers at the scene reported that victims were receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Alcohol Considered a Contributing Factor in Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators believe that alcohol was a contributing factor in a fatal motorcycle accident that claimed the life of an Apopka man on June 5. Police say the 37-year-old suspect was driving his van out of the Loyal Order of Moose lodge parking lot near Orange Blossom Trail and Rosamond Drive around 9:00 that evening when the accident occurred.

Police Asking for Help in Connection with Fatal Florida Hit-and-Run Accident

Accident investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol are asking for anyone who may be a witness of a fatal Central Florida hit-and-run accident to contact them as soon as possible. According to police, an Astatula man was walking along Duda Road near County Road 448A early on the morning of June 21, 2010 when a large truck struck and killed him. The truck then fled the scene.

Multiple Auto Accidents Make Travel on Interstate 95 Difficult

On the morning of June 28, 2010, travelers on Interstate 95 encountered multiple auto accidents that snarled traffic and sent an undisclosed number of people to area hospitals. Police investigated at least seven auto accidents in different sections of Interstate 95 in Brevard County. Most notable of these Central Florida auto accidents was a nine-vehicle crash, which blocked the southbound lanes of I-95 near mile marker 191.

Wrong-Way Auto Accident on S.R. 408 Injures Three

July 12, 2010

A car heading eastbound in the westbound lanes of State Road 408 in west Orange County caused a recent auto accident that sent three people to local hospitals for treatment. Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating the accident say the accident occurred around 3:26 a.m. near Pine Hills Road when a 2002 Mazda driven by a 25-year-old Orlando woman collided with a 2001 Saturn. Police say the driver of the Saturn swerved to avoid the collision, but both vehicles hit nearly head-on.

GM Recall Due to Washer Fluid Heating System

Just days ago, the struggling General Motors company recalled over 1.5 million vehicles for a strange reason. It turns out that a small company called Microheat provided a washer fluid heating system for installation in all kinds of GM vehicles. Cadillacs, Buicks, Hummers, Chevrolets and other GM models all have this system, which, according to recent reports, can overheat and cause a fire in the event of a short circuit.
