Pensacola Accident Causes a Few Delays on U.S. 98

A small accident on U.S. 98 in Pensacola caused some slight delays this afternoon, when a small SUV in the furthest right lane was stopped waiting to turn right. Another vehicle approached the intersection in the outside lane and attempted to turn right at the same time. The vehicles crashed when the front left of the SUV collided with the right front side of the other vehicle as they both attempted to negotiate the turn. The accident resulted in only minor injuries to both parties and both declined to be transported to area health centers for examination.

Waterford Lakes Crash Results in Fatality

An unexplained accident early Sunday morning has claimed the life of a 21-year-old Orlando woman. According to Florida Highway Patrol, a vehicle was traveling eastbound along State Road 408 when it left the road and traveled across all lanes of traffic before dropping into a retention pond. According to an eyewitness, it did not appear that the driver slowed for the exit ramp and drove straight across all lanes of traffic on Alafaya Trail. The car entered the pond and immediately sank. The driver was unable to get out of the car in time, and ultimately drowned.

Reported Road Rage Incident Ends with Arrest of Lake County Deputy

Thomas Jones Thompson, a Lake County sheriff’s detention deputy, has been arrested following an alleged road rage incident that occurred Monday night. According to police statements, Charles Christopher and his wife Sarah had just left Taco Bell on US 441 in Mount Dora, when Thompson pulled up next to them. Thompson then ordered them to pull over. Because Thompson was driving his personal vehicle with no police markings, the couple did not believe him to be law enforcement. Thompson told the couple he had witnessed their vehicle running two stop signs and then pointed a gun at them.

Florida Congressman Hopes to Ban Texting While Driving

Florida Congressman Ted Deutch of Boca Raton is pushing for stricter texting while driving laws. He introduced a bill in the United States House of Representatives on Wednesday, which would empower Florida and other states to enforce stricter laws banning distracted driving. Police would have more power to pull over motorists and give them tickets if they are seen texting while driving.

Pedestrian Killed on Florida Avenue

May 19, 2015

A woman was killed on Florida Avenue in Tampa last week, while walking in the outer/bicycle lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities have said that the driver did not see the woman before hitting her. The woman was transferred to Tampa General Hospital, and died shortly after because of her injuries.

State Road 60 Wrong-Way Crashes

May 19, 2015

In early May, a driver going the wrong way on State Road 60 caused a four-car crash. His pickup truck struck two cars, and one was pushed into a semi-tractor trailer. One of the drivers he hit was taken to Tampa General Hospital and died from his injuries.

Three People Killed in Casselberry Crash

May 11, 2015

An accident just after midnight Tuesday morning has claimed the lives of three young Florida residents. Police say that 27-year-old Laura Hopkins was attempting to turn left off of State Road 436 onto Winter Woods Boulevard when her vehicle was struck by another vehicle driven by 29-year-old Kyle Mowery. Hopkins also had a passenger in her vehicle at the time of the incident, 22-year-old Erica Jusino. The two women were on their way to a friend’s house of the time of the accident.
