Up To 11 Million Vehicles Affected in Volkswagen Emissions Recall
According to the most recent data released by auto manufacturer Volkswagen, nearly 11 million vehicles built by the German auto company may be subject to recalls related to the "defeat devices" installed on these models. The recall follows a violation notice issued to Volkswagen by the Environmental Protection agency this month in regards to these devices that are used to trick emission standards tests. The devices use software that runs complex algorithms during the emissions test, making diesel engines seem compliant with the law, when really this is the only time the full emission control is functional.

Two Florida Women Killed in Wrong Way Accident on I-95
A head-on collision Saturday night has left two Pompano Beach residents dead. Two females in their early 20’s were in the southbound lanes of I-95 when their Toyota Matrix collided head-on with a northbound 2006 Jeep Cherokee. Upon impact, both of the vehicles caught fire. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames by the time first responders reached the scene of the accident.

Atlantic Beach Woman Facing DUI Manslaughter Charges After Fatal Pedestrian Accident
A 44-year-old woman from Atlantic Beach was arrested this week after a toxicology report proved she was under the influence of alcohol when she struck and killed a pedestrian in an accident on May 9th, 2015. The victim was a 24-year-old man who was on vacation in Jacksonville.

Friday Morning Trucking Accident Shuts Down I-95
Traffic on I-95 was stopped in both directions early Friday morning due to a fatal crash involving a box truck loaded with paper. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at approximately 1:30 am the box truck was traveling northbound on I-95 near State Road 16 in St. John’s County.

Early Morning Jacksonville Bus Crash Sends Seven To The Hospital
An early morning crash involving a bus and a car sent seven people to the hospital early Tuesday morning. A JTA bus was stopped to let a woman off on Philips Highway at the intersection with Baymeadows Way when it was rear-ended by another vehicle. It is not clear at this time why the female driver of the automobile failed to stop. All of the persons transported to the hospital received non-life threatening injuries.

St. Petersburg Motorcycle Crash Results in Fatality
A motorcycle accident that occurred Sunday evening in St. Petersburg resulted in the fatality of a female passenger. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, a Suzuki motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-275 in St. Petersburg when the motorcycle veered sharply onto the shoulder and struck a guardrail. The motorcycle continued down an embankment, hitting trees along the way. The male driver of the motorcycle, along with the female passenger were thrown from the bike. Both were wearing helmets. The 25-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the motorcycle was taken to Bayfront Health in St. Petersburg with critical injuries.

Florida Corrections Officer Severely Injured in Collision with Semi
An officer had just dropped off an inmate recently released from the Franklin Correctional Center, when the vehicle he was traveling in collided with a semi-truck on State Road 30. Officer James Massey was headed west in a 2005 Ford Taurus when, for an unknown reason, he crossed the center line and hit a 2015 Volvo semi, nearly head on.

Florida State Trooper and 2 Others Injured in Crash on I-95
Shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning, two women traveling on I-95 were injured when their vehicle slammed into the back of a stopped Florida Highway Patrol cruiser. Trooper Ronald Roberts had just finished working a previous accident in the area and was almost ready to head back out onto the interstate at the time of the crash. All three were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, however none of the injuries appears to be life-threatening.

West Palm Beach Man Jailed in Road Rage Incident
A West Palm Beach man was arrested on Monday under the suspicion that he was the aggressor in a road rage incident that took place July 6. On the day in question, a mother along with her two small children and their grandmother in her vehicle, had stopped at McDonald’s to get some lunch in the drive-thru. They had just left the drive-thru window and were sitting at a stop sign waiting to turn out on to Military Trail, when the man driving the SUV behind them began to shout profanities and impatiently honk his horn. The woman waited for traffic to clear and proceeded onto Military Trail.
