Accident in Middleburg Highlights Safety Concerns

A 12-year-old boy was seriously injured on Thursday while riding his bike near Omega Park in Middleburg. He was trying to cross County Road 218 when he was hit by a Ford Mustang. The boy was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville where he remains in critical condition.

Multi-Vehicle Crash in Altamonte Springs Kills Father and Infant Child

On the morning of Friday, October 16th, 2015, six cars were involved in a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Road 434 and State Road 436 in Altamonte Springs. As a result, six people were hospitalized and three of those were found to have sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Motorcyclist And Two Others Hospitalized in Jacksonville Crash

Three people were hospitalized in Jacksonville as a result of a serious motorcycle crash on West Beaver Street and Acorn Street on Friday, October 23rd. The collision occurred around 10:49 p.m. between a single-rider motorcycle and a car carrying two passengers. According to police who arrived on the scene, the motorcyclist and both passengers of the car were taken to the hospital while the driver of the car stayed behind. The driver is said to have cooperated openly with the officers at the crash site.

Man Charged with Careless Driving After Escambia County Trucking Accident

A 27-year-old Alabama man was charged with careless driving after an accident in Escambia County on October 27th. The crash happened at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Champion Drive around 5:45 a.m. Authorities say that truck driver Ryan Joiner, who was driving a 2015 Peterbilt, was stopped in the median northbound on Century Boulevard and drove into the direct path of 22-year-old Nakeem Williams’s vehicle when he attempted to re-enter the traffic way. Williams was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries, and the truck driver now faces careless driving charges for failing to see the oncoming driver.

Elderly Man Collides with Vehicle in Orlando Wrong-Way Crash

On Monday, October 19th, 2015, 84-year-old Porfirio Perez of Orlando was driving south in the northbound lanes of State Road 417. Despite attempts by a Seminole County Sheriff to alert Perez to his error and stop him from driving in the wrong direction by flashing his lights and blaring his sirens, the front corner of Perez’s 2005 PT Cruiser hit the front end of 55-year-old Kevin Cannon’s 2005 Lexus. Cannon was also carrying a 15-year-old passenger, Sean Cannon. Both drivers involved in the crash were taken to a nearby hospital for serious injuries, while the teenage passenger was (luckily) taken in for only minor injuries.

Fatal Brevard County Head-On Collision

November 9, 2015

On October 10th, 2015, a Brevard County woman was struck and killed in a head-on collision with a vehicle that was headed in the opposite direction. 20-year-old Keri DeMott was headed westbound on State Road 407 near I-95 in Orlando during the very early hours of the morning. At the same time, 22-year-old Keith Pumphrey of Melbourne was headed eastbound. Around 12:30 a.m., Pumphrey’s 2004 Honda Pilot is reported to have drifted into the westbound lanes, hitting DeMott’s 2001 Honda CR-V head-on. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Pumphrey was found to be in critical condition and taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center; unfortunately, his accidental victim was not so lucky. Keri DeMott was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

No Resolution Yet in Pensacola Crash

A traffic accident that occurred in May still has yet to be closed, the result of an ongoing investigation that is taking months. According to officials, on that day, a Pensacola man driving a Toyota Tacoma truck left the road and crashed his vehicle into the home of a 52-year-old woman. The woman died as a result of her injuries. At this time, officials have released no information as to whether there was any trace of drugs or alcohol in the man’s system, though they do state that they have sent toxicology samples to the University of Florida for lab tests.

Grammy-Nominated DJ Killed in Florida Auto Accident

Luis Borges, a well-known Venezuelan DJ who contributed to the production of an album that received a Latin Grammy nomination in 2012, was struck and killed in an accident near Lake Buena Vista in late August. He was reportedly on vacation in Orlando to celebrate his upcoming 35th birthday. News of the musician’s death quickly generated a storm of social media posts from fans, mourning the death of the DJ who was popular in Latin America for his dance and electronic music.
