November 9, 2015

On October 10th, 2015, a Brevard County woman was struck and killed in a head-on collision with a vehicle that was headed in the opposite direction. 20-year-old Keri DeMott was headed westbound on State Road 407 near I-95 in Orlando during the very early hours of the morning. At the same time, 22-year-old Keith Pumphrey of Melbourne was headed eastbound. Around 12:30 a.m., Pumphrey’s 2004 Honda Pilot is reported to have drifted into the westbound lanes, hitting DeMott’s 2001 Honda CR-V head-on. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, Pumphrey was found to be in critical condition and taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center; unfortunately, his accidental victim was not so lucky. Keri DeMott was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

DeMott was a sociology student at the University of Central Florida, working on her third semester of college at the time of the accident. Friends and family have expressed their grief and shared favorite memories of Keri on social media since the incident. Her father, Bill DeMott, well-known for having been a WWE NXT head trainer, has received numerous public condolences via social media, with everyone from wrestlers to fans and strangers chiming in with their support. Even so, one thing is certain: tough guy Bill DeMott is suffering from a tragedy no father should have to weather.

So far, no new updates have been released since a few days after the incident. The investigation by state troopers into the actual cause of the crash is still ongoing, and no criminal charges have been brought against Pumphrey at present. It is not certain whether the incident was a result of distracted driving, intoxication, vehicle malfunction, medical emergency or some other event, but until Florida State troopers complete their investigation, it remains unclear who or what is responsible for this gruesome tragedy.
