Authorities in Apopka are currently working to determine the cause of a three-vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 51-year-old motorcyclist last Saturday evening near the intersection of Jones Avenue and Orange Blossom Trail in Zellwood.
According to preliminary case reports from the responding officers with the Florida Highway Patrol, it was approximately 8:45 p.m. on January 8, 2022, when a 51-year-old man from Apopka was driving his motorcycle along Orange Blossom Trail approaching Jones Avenue from the southbound direction. At this same time, a 19-year-old female from Apopka was driving a sedan-style vehicle in the northern direction approaching the same intersection. As she attempted to make a left-hand turn on Jones Avenue, she entered the path of the motorcyclist, and the two vehicles violently collided. A third vehicle that was being driven by a 59-year-old Tavares woman had pulled over in the eastbound lane to presumably avoid the first accident, however, it was struck right after the sedan crashed into the biker.
Local Orange County emergency response teams and troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene of the three-car crash and arrived at the accident site within a matter of minutes. EMTs immediately recognized the severity of the injuries that the 51-year-old motorcyclist sustained during the collision and despite their best life-saving techniques & efforts, he was unable to survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other two drivers involved in this deadly car crash received minor injuries. It is unclear if they were treated at the scene or were transported to a medical facility for further assistance.
Detectives with the Florida Highway Patrol are still investigating this accident and are expected to release additional details to the public once the case has officially been closed.
