An Orlando teen was killed over the weekend in a hit and run crash. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the 17 year old was walking east on the paved shoulder of Orange Blossom Trail, near Hope Street, in Osceola County when he was hit and killed by an eastbound vehicle.
It is believed that the vehicle was a dark colored SUV or sedan. For unknown reasons, it left the road and veered onto the shoulder, where it hit the victim. It then continued driving. Troopers are still looking for the vehicle and ask that anyone with any information to contact them or call CrimeLine immediately.
As this tragic case makes clear, car vs. pedestrian accidents are always serious – usually resulting in severe injuries or death. Even more unfortunate, they happen too often. According to statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 60,000 pedestrians are injured in traffic accidents a year. Furthermore, it doesn’t take much for a car to injure a pedestrian. Even a crash happening at 10 miles per hour can leave a pedestrian severely disabled.
If you or a loved one are the victim of an Orlando car vs. pedestrian accident, you may have the legal right to compensation for your injuries. However, to ensure you get the compensation you deserve, the first thing you should always do is seek medical attention. No matter how small the injury, your first trip should be straight to your doctor for a full physical exam. As many injuries don’t manifest until days – or weeks – after an accident, it is essential that you create an official medical record of your condition after the accident. This way, if the case goes to trial, there will be no doubt about whether or not the claimed injuries were actually caused by the accident.
It is also highly advised that you discuss your case with an experienced Orlando personal injury attorney. The lawyers at the Law Offices of James O. Cunningham, P.A. have been representing victims of Orlando car and pedestrian accidents for nearly three decades, helping them get the compensation they deserve.
