A crash that involved a single vehicle in Seville this past Sunday resulted in the death of one woman and the serious injury of two other individuals after the car in which they were traveling suddenly left the road. The report from the Florida Highway Patrol members working inside of Volusia County does not provide much information regarding the specifics of the crash itself, and it is not clear if the car rolled over after leaving the road, if it collided with something on the road’s shoulder, or if something else perhaps occurred to ultimately cause the car to erupt into flames.
We do know that it was shortly after 4:00 on Sunday morning when three individuals were inside of a car as it traveled down the westbound lanes of County Road 305. As the car neared the intersection of 305 and McGlon Road, the driver either lost control or experienced a disturbance that caused them to pull the car off of the road and onto the shoulder. Before the driver was able to regain control of the car, the severe crash occurred.
A 21-year-old woman from Crescent City who was not initially named in the incident report was thrown from the car during this period of time. The injuries that she suffered as a result of this were fatal, and she was declared dead at the scene by the paramedics who attended to her after the crash.
It is not known who was driving the car at the time of the incident, but it appears that the 9-1-1 call was placed by another 21-year-old from Crescent City who was inside of the car. This person was able to both pull themselves the third of the car’s occupants, a 23-year-old DeLand resident, from the burning car before calling the police for assistance. When the authorities arrived, they reported finding the young person who had called them walking down the side of the road, carrying the severely injured 23-year-old.
Both of these young people were transported via ambulance to the Halifax Medical Center where they received treatment for the injuries which the report indicated were serious.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently underway.
