A marital dispute that happened in Port Orange this past Wednesday resulted in a car crashing into a small lake after the man driving the truck became so agitated when his partner told him she wanted a divorce that he decided such a course of action was the only one worth taking. According to the report from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the couple in question were inside of a pickup truck and driving down Reed Canal Road at close to 2:00 on Wednesday morning when the man’s partner, an unnamed woman, told him that she wanted to legally separate.
The report did not go into the reasons behind this statement, and it is not clear if the words were said in complete gravity or if they were uttered in a moment of early-morning passion. The man behind the wheel of the car clearly took them in the spirit of the former, and it seems that this sent him into a fit of rage. At this time, the couple was passing by a lake. It seems that the man saw the lake and believed it to be his only hope. He pulled the car off of the roadway and began driving it towards the lake. The report did not indicate what the response of the woman in the car was to they maneuver, but it is likely she was not pleased.
The man then drove the car into the lake.
Officers with the Port Orange Police Department in Volusia County reported that both the man and the woman were able to leave the vehicle without suffering from any injuries. It is not clear what happened next, but we do know that the woman wound up in the care of the Port Orange Police Department. The man, on the other hand, remains undiscovered. Officers with the Port Orange Police Department are currently searching for him in order to fully flesh out the details of the incident.
It is not clear if the woman has chosen to continue filing for divorce, although it is likely that the actions of the man did not engender any tender feelings towards him on her part.
