Vehicle Involved in Fatal Florida Auto Accident was Stolen
A New Smyrna teenager, who caused a fatal State Road 44 auto accident, was driving a stolen truck and fleeing police when he struck an SUV and killed the driver—a father of two. DeLand police said that the 19-year-old suspect was driving the stolen truck east on S.R. 44 when he drifted into the westbound lanes and into the path of the 40-year-old father who was westbound near the intersection with Summit Avenue.

Woman Killed in Calhoun County Auto Accident
The jcfloridan.com reports that a Calhoun County auto accident claimed the life of an elderly Marianna woman and sent two men to a local hospital with serious injuries. Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators say that the 81-year-old woman was taken to Calhoun-Liberty Hospital after the accident where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. They say she was driving a 1999 Dodge car northbound on County Road 275 when she failed to observe a stop sign, and violated the right of way of a southbound 1995 Toyota pickup truck on State Road 71. This article published in the New York Times recently reports that Ray LaHood, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, has retracted a statement that he made recently regarding Toyota automobiles and the company’s massive recall of many models. The statement that caused LaHood to issue his clarification was one that he made recently, telling Toyota owners to “stop driving it, take it to a Toyota dealer because they believe they have a fix for it.”

Toyota Announces Accelerator Recall in Europe and China
Toyota Motor Corporation has expanded the biggest recall in company history to include some Toyota models in Europe and China in addition to the millions the company has recalled in the United States. The auto giant made the announcement about the expansion of the recall program recently and has also announced that sales of some models will be suspended until further notice. Toyota is recalling millions of vehicles because the accelerators in some models are sticking, causing some vehicles to accelerate out of control.

New Tollbooths Reduce Auto Accidents
A woman driving a 1997 Honda was driving through a tollbooth’s E-Pass lane on State Road 408 on June 21, 2007, when an 18-wheeler Orange County trash truck carrying 80,000 pounds of garbage struck her. The Orlando Sentinel reported that police issued no citations, but Orange County did agree to pay nearly $3,000 to compensate the accident victim for neck injuries and damage to her car.
Orlando Man Sentenced in Connection with Illegal Street Race that Killed One
An Orlando man accused of causing an auto accident that claimed the life of another man entered a guilty plea recently. The accused was allegedly involved in an illegal street race that killed a bystander watching the race.
