A Friday evening crash in Osceola County has resulted in the death of at least three people after one of several cars involved erupted in flame. According to the initial report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash took place close to 9:20 at night at the intersection of Peavine Road and State Road 60. Shortly before the crash, a four-door Honda, being driven by the 22-year-old Kissimmee resident Garcia, was headed eastbound on State Road 60. In front of the Honda was a Jeep. Headed westbound at this same time was a Chevrolet Pickup truck, and behind the pickup truck was a box truck.
It seems that Garcia’s car drifted from the eastbound lanes just enough so that its left side was hanging over into the westbound lane as he approached the Chevrolet. Either unable to return to the correct lane in time or unaware that he was about to collide with another vehicle, Garcia’s car crashed nearly head-on with the pickup truck.
The box truck could not swerve around the two vehicles quickly enough and crashed violently into the back of the Chevrolet before skidding off the road where it caught on fire and began to severely burn. The Jeep was also unable to avoid the accident and wound up colliding with both the box truck and the Chevrolet.
When first responders, including paramedics, members of various fire and rescue teams, and the Florida Highway Patrol arrived at the area they found a grim scene. Garcia and his passenger, the 22-year-old Wilborn, a Haines City resident, were both declared dead at the scene. The driver of the box truck was also declared dead at the scene. It is not clear whether or not the three individuals were deceased by the time the emergency personnel arrived or if they died after receiving emergency medical care.
The 33-year-old woman driving the Jeep and the driver of the Chevrolet, who was not described in any way, were both taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center where they are currently being treated for their injuries.
