Members of the Miami Beach Police Department are currently investigating the exact cause of a fatal auto accident that happened at a popular pizza place Wednesday evening which claimed the life of one individual and seriously injured six others.
According to preliminary collision reports from responding officers with the Miami Beach Police Department, it was during the evening dinner rush at Call Me Gaby that the first set of 9-1-1 calls started to pour in to local dispatch offices referencing an out-of-control car that had just crashed into the pizza restaurant’s outdoor seating area. Witnesses to the event indicate that an elderly woman driving a Bentley was trying to parallel park in a space on Washington Avenue near the upscale café when she presumably stepped on the vehicle’s accelerator instead of the brake pedal and slammed into a group of tables occupied by several restaurant-goers.
Numerous law enforcement agencies and medical teams within Miami-Dade County arrived at the scene of the crash and discovered multiple people suffering from a wide variety of injuries. In total, seven patrons were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where one person passed away shortly after arriving at the emergency room.
The identities of the injured victims have yet to be released to the public. It is unclear at this time if the driver of the Bentley will face any legal consequences for her connection to the deadly accident. It was stated that she remained at the crash site after the collision occurred and is in full cooperation with the Miami Beach Police Department.
“Our entire city grieves for all the victims and their families, just a devastating tragedy,” said Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber.
