A collision between two vehicles in Lake County resulted in a single fatality as well as one injury on Friday, May 15th. We know very little about the incident at this time, however the Florida Highway Patrol working within Lake County did release initial statements around the truck accident as well as their response that have aided us within the general public when it comes to a fuller understanding of the event in question.
It was sometime around 4:15 in the afternoon when two pickup trucks were traveling through Lake County, close to the intersection of County Road 44 and Treasure Island Avenue. It is not clear if the drivers were on the same road, traveling in the same direction, or if they were headed along opposing paths down the roadway. It is not clear if either of the drivers had a passenger within their vehicle at the time or if they were traveling alone inside of their cars down the road.
At a point when the two pickup trucks were near to one another, one or both of the drivers lost control of their vehicle. Again, the information within the report failed to mention much around the causes of the accident, and we are left with very little information that might aid us in understanding what went wrong to cause the two trucks to slam so violently into one another.
Shortly after the crash, emergency services were rushing to the area in order to treat the drivers of the trucks, both of whom suffered severe injures in the collision itself. Paramedics assessed the injuries suffered by the drivers, deemed them to be beyond the scope of what could be offered at the scene itself, and then rushed them both to nearby hospitals. We know that at least one of the drivers was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center where they were declared dead sometime later. It is not known where the second driver was taken, nor is it clear what condition the person is in at the time of this writing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
