Massive lane closures were still in effect heading into the mid-afternoon after a fatal collision occurred close to the intersection of U.S. 27 and Lake Louisa Road in Lake County. Current reports from the scene of the semi truck accident indicate that the crash happened after a big rig traveling down one of the two roads mentioned above overturned. It is not clear what took place to cause the driver of this truck to lose control of their vehicle.
What we do know is that it was shortly after 1:30 in the morning when emergency response crews from around Lake County rushed to the intersection of U.S. 27 and Lake Louisa Road in response to reports of a fiery crash involving numerous vehicles. When the emergency teams – including paramedics and EMTs – arrived at the scene, they found themselves battling a blazing car as they tried to rescue everyone involved from the badly mangled vehicles.
It is not clear if more than two vehicles were involved, but the single car mentioned in reports was in extremely bad shape after the semi truck overturned. It appears that as the truck was rolling, the car was close enough to become either trapped underneath it or the driver of the car simply could not avoid crashing into the rear of the much larger vehicle as it collapsed onto the roadway.
The reports did not indicate just how many people total were involved in the deadly incident, but we know that at least two of those who were unfortunate enough to become entangled in the collision died as a result of the injuries they sustained. The reports did not specify if these individuals died in the incident itself or if they were declared dead after being transported from the scene to a nearby hospital.
While the authorities began the initial investigation into the accident both the northern and southern lanes of U.S. 27 were closed throughout the area. It is not clear just how long the lanes were closed, but it is entirely possible that the severity of the crash meant that the lane closures lasted well into the early evening.
