A woman was killed and a teenager critically injured in a bizarre hit-and-run accident in a neighborhood that has been plagued with pedestrian and bicycle accidents for many years. Many details about the fatal pedestrian accident remain unknown while the accident investigation is underway, but police say the 22-year-old woman and 16-year-old boy were lying in the roadway in Altamonte Springs around 9:00 p.m. on October 11 when they were run over by a car or SUV that fled from the scene after the accident.
A woman walking to her car at Orlando’s Festival Bay Mall on International Drive was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle, adding to the Orlando area’s reputation as the most dangerous place in the country for pedestrians. The investigation is still ongoing, but police say that the accident occurred on September 29 around 4:40 in the afternoon. The woman’s age and address have not yet been released by Orlando Police, but they say she was struck and run over in the mall’s parking lot and was trapped beneath the car that struck her for some time until rescuers were able to free her. She was taken to an Orlando-area hospital with undisclosed injuries and is listed in serious condition. Police say charges are pending against the driver who struck her.
