A Central Florida business owner has died, just one week after the motorcycle she was riding collided with a pickup truck the night of June 7th. The accident occurred at the intersection of State Road 46 and Rinehart Road. The victim was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she had been listed in critical condition.
The accident highlights the need for all motorists to be vigilant while driving, particularly to be on the lookout for motorcyclists. Florida, with its scenic drives and sunny weather, is one of the most popular states for motorcycle enthusiasts to visit. Florida is also home to many motorcycle-based festivals and events. For these reasons, the state boasts one of the highest numbers of motorcyclists on the road in the United States.
Drivers must remain aware that they share the road with motorcycles. In any accident involving a vehicle with a motorcyclist, the cyclist will most often lose. The slogan ‘Look Twice, Save a Life’ is a great motto many cyclists live by. Not only are motorcycles smaller, which makes them difficult to see, they can become almost invisible during evening hours, when the glow of a single headlight may be the only indication that a motorcycle is approaching.
In addition, they do not have the protection systems found in motor vehicles to keep them safe. Consequently, the injuries sustained by motorcyclists in these types of accidents are often severe.
Many victims are critically or fatally injured every year in crashes involving motorcycles.
