Fighting for Florida Car Accident Victims Since 1977

A 52-year-old Tampa man is in critical condition after a recent motorcycle accident in Brooksville. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that the man was riding his 2002 Triumph motorcycle westbound on Powell Road near the intersection with Emerson Road when a Mercedes sedan turned directly in front of him. Troopers say that the Mercedes, driven by a 58-year-old Brooksville man, was making a left turn onto Powell from Emerson and turned directly into the victim’s path. The rider had no time to take evasive action, and his motorcycle collided with the front right side of the Mercedes.

The impact threw the rider an undisclosed distance, and he was rushed to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point, where he is being treated for critical injuries. The accident closed both lanes of Powell Road for more than an hour while troopers conducted their investigation.

This is exactly the scenario that motorcyclists fear most, as it is a very common cause of accidents and even the most experienced riders have little or no time to react. When the driver of a passenger car violates a rider’s right of way by turning right in front of him or her, the bike collides with the car, but the rider’s forward momentum usually launches him or her over the car. While airborne, the rider has no way to protect himself or herself from striking a tree or other immovable object or being hurled into the roadway, where the rider can be struck by other vehicles. Whether riders are wearing a helmet or not, they frequently suffer very serious injuries that require very expensive medical care and prevent them from working and providing for their families.

Injured riders need and deserve competent, experienced and aggressive legal representation to protect their rights and look out for their interests while they recover from their injuries. James O. Cunningham is an Orlando motorcycle accident attorney who has successfully represented injured riders since 1977. He is a very skilled negotiator and can help injured riders receive the fair and just compensation they deserve through settlements, saving them time and money when they need it the most.
