Florida Highway Patrol troopers are asking for the public’s help in finding a dark grey truck they say could have been involved in a recent fatal hit-and-run motorcycle accident in Osceola County. Troopers say that the accident killed a 47-year-old Kissimmee man, who was riding on Interstate 4 near Osceola Parkway when a car in front of him struck a piece of shredded tire, which became airborne and struck him.
FHP spokesperson Sgt. Kim Montes said, "A piece of tire got kicked up (from) the car in front of them actually struck the motorcyclist, knocking him off of his bike. When he fell into the roadway, witnesses say a large truck, either a F250 or F350, gray in color, struck and ran over him. That vehicle kept going."
Troopers report that after the rider was struck by the tire scrap and knocked off his 2006 motorcycle, it continued onto the shoulder of I-4 before coming to a stop. They say that they are actively looking for the driver of the grey truck and the truck and are asking anyone who might know anything about this accident to contact them as soon as possible. They also say that the rider may have been struck by other vehicles in addition to the truck after he was knocked off his bike.
"We don’t’ even know if that’s the only vehicle that ran over him," Sgt. Montes said. "We just know that’s the first vehicle that struck and run over him and did leave the scene."
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 4 were closed for several hours while troopers conducted their investigation and accident debris was cleared from the roadway.
