In an unfortunate accident on Friday, January 15th, 2016, a Gulfport native was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Miami’s South Beach. The victim, a man of roughly 41 years (his age has not yet been confirmed), was on duty as a federal agent at the time.
Scott McGuire, a special agent with United States Homeland Security Investigations, was about to enter a recently-hailed cab on Collins Avenue with a fellow agent when both were struck by a 2015 Mercedes E250 when it made a wide U-turn and went up onto the sidewalk. Rather than stop to make sure the men were okay, the driver of the Mercedes continued on, fleeing the scene. Special Agent McGuire was critically injured by the vehicle, while the other agent (whose name has not yet been released) suffered a broken leg.
The driver of the 2015 Mercedes E250 has been identified as 21-year-old student Jordana Rosales of Gables, FL. Police were able to apprehend Rosales later in the day, and charge her with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury. According to the Sun Herald, Rosales’ charges may be upgraded due to Special Agent McGuire’s death.
Special Agent McGuire received full respect in death, with a full law enforcement procession leading his body from the medical examiner’s office to the funeral home. Ever the U.S. hero, friends and family praise his selfless nature and hold to the silver lining that his status as an organ donor may well save the lives of others.
