Information is being sought by the Florida Highway Patrol regarding a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian battling for their life in a Marion County hospital in mid-July. Officials with the Florida Highway Patrol released reports regarding the incident that suggested the event took place sometime close to 8:30 on Friday, July 18th. The exact time is not clear as the event currently has no known witnesses. Instead, the badly injured pedestrian was discovered only after the collision took place, lying on the shoulder of the western lanes of Northeast Jacksonville Road, close to where this street intersects with Northeast 37th Lane.
While what exactly caused the pedestrian to be lying on the side of the road was not initially clear, a preliminary investigation that was aided by paramedics revealed that the person had suffered from injuries indicative of having been inflicted by a fast moving vehicle. Because there was no vehicle in sight and because the accident hadn’t been reported to police after having taken place, the only conclusion is that the driver of the car or truck that struck the pedestrian decided to flee from the scene after the incident had taken place.
Fortunately, the pedestrian was still alive when they were discovered by the authorities. They were then taken from the scene of the crash to the Ocala Regional Medical Center where they began to receive treatment for the numerous severe injuries. It is believed that the person was stabilized after being admitted, but their injuries remain grave and their treatment is ongoing.
The Florida Highway Patrol is asking anyone who might have information into the incident to contact them or the Marion County Crime Stoppers immediately. The sooner that any lead at all can be obtained in the case, the sooner that the responsible party or parties can be brought forward to face the consequences of their crimes.
For the pedestrian, the road to recovery will be long and likely very expensive. Knowing who is responsible for the injuries they suffered will possibly take much of the financial burden from their shoulders and shift it onto the plate of the driver of the vehicle in question – the person who inflicted the injuries in the first place.
