A woman in New Smyrna Beach is still amazed she survived a hit-and-run collision that took place on Christmas Eve in Volusia County. According to the official report, Cobb was driving down State Road 44, when her car was suddenly struck by a black pickup truck. The force of the collision sent Cobb’s vehicle wildly spinning across the road. Cobb says she could see a lighting pole rapidly approaching, but at the last moment she managed to swerve her car away from the solid object and into a ditch.
When Cobb’s vehicle hit the ditch it rolled over. Soon the vehicle was filling with the dark water standing in the bottom of the ditch. Cobb was able to exit the vehicle and witnesses to the incident remained with her until the police and fire rescue teams arrived.
Inside of the vehicle were all of the Christmas presents which Cobb was bringing home to place underneath the tree before giving them to her daughter, a 3-year-old who was not in the car at the time of the crash. Speaking to reporters, Cobb said that firefighters climbed throughout the entire car, collecting all the presents they could find from the demolished vehicle. More presents were scattered across the roadway, and Cobb as well as witnesses to the incident picked these up as well.
Due to some sort of holiday magic, Cobb remained completely unscathed after the crash, even though the car itself (a car only recently purchased) was totaled. Additionally, all of the presents being transported by Cobb were retrieved and accounted for. None of them were destroyed, and Cobb was able to deliver them to her child in time for the holidays.
At this time, an investigation is underway to apprehend the driver of the black pickup truck who caused the incident. Police are seeking any information that will lead to the capture of the individual or individuals inside of the car at the time of the incident, and anyone who wishes to offer any tips is encouraged to call the New Smyrna Beach Police Department.
