Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office are currently trying to locate and apprehend an individual who was driving an SUV when they collided with a young person and then fled the scene of the accident. Reports from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office indicate that it was on Sunday, January 13th, when these events occurred. At the time of this writing, it is not known if the police have managed to progress at all with the investigation.

The young person involved was outside, in his driveway, playing basketball. It is not clear if the boy was alone while playing or if there were others who were with them, but there was surveillance video that managed to capture the events. It is not clear if the video contained precise enough images to dramatically assist the authorities who are in charge of the current investigation.

As the boy was trying to handle the ball, he lost control of it, resulting in the ball rolling out of the driveway and onto Windsor Heights Street. The boy then began to chase the ball, running into the street and directly into the path of the SUV which was headed past the house at this time. The driver of the SUV managed to swerve off of the road and into the grass, avoiding a direct collision with the boy, but was not able to spare the child completely. Reports are grey around what exactly occurred, but we do know that the child suffered from a broken arm as a result of the crash.

It is not clear if the driver of the SUV slowed down at any point, or if they attempted to find out what the condition of the child was after the collision. We do know that they ultimately chose not to remain at the scene and drove away from Windsor Heights Street shortly after the collision.

As stated above, deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office are now looking for the person who was driving the SUV. Any information relating to this particular circumstance that anyone can provide to the authorities is greatly appreciated.
