Two men that were charged with a variety of crimes in connection with a string of auto burglaries will now face additional charges stemming from a high-speed chase and accidents they caused on the Florida Turnpike. Law enforcement officials who have been working on the car burglaries say that the two men belong to a burglary ring they have been calling “Felony Lane.” The driver of the car that led police on the chase and caused three accidents is 23-year-old male. He faces charges of resisting arrest, aggravated fleeing and eluding and three counts of leaving the scene of an accident with bodily injuries in addition to grand theft and auto burglary charges.
Fortunately, none of the people involved in the accidents on the turnpike suffered serious injuries in the crashes. This is remarkable, given that the suspects reached speeds in excess of 120 mph while attempting to elude capture. Police say that the chase began at Jervey Gantt Park in Ocala and continued south on U.S. 441. A Lake County sheriff’s deputy caught the burglary suspects and pulled them over on the turnpike at mile marker 291. When one of them got out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, he was struck and critically injured by a Chevy SUV. He is being treated at Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
Orlando personal injury attorney James O. Cunningham was pleased to learn that none of the people in cars struck by the fleeing suspects were injured in the crash. However, he also knows that many other innocent people in similar positions are not so lucky. Since 1977, he has successfully represented countless drivers and passengers injured by reckless and negligent drivers, and he has helped them receive many millions of dollars in compensation.
It’s important to note that not all damage claims are decided by a court award. In fact, many of his injured clients receive the fair and just compensation they deserve through negotiated settlements, which save a great deal of time and money.
