According to the Florida Highway Patrol, an accident took place along Interstate 4 in Orange County early on Thursday Morning after a car left the roadway and collided with a line of trees. The report indicates that the car, a 2003 four-door Infiniti, was traveling well above the posted limit on I-4, close to the Beachline, when the individual behind the wheel somehow lost control of the vehicle.
As a direct result of this loss of control, the car swerved off of the road and sped towards the trees flanking the interstate. The Florida Highway Patrol’s report indicates that the vehicle impacted a successive series of tree before coming to a complete stop. When the emergency response services arrived, they worked to free the individuals trapped in the badly mangled vehicle; however the injuries sustained by both the driver and his passenger were too severe for any medical treatment to save them. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Because the majority of the debris was strewn well away from the road, only one lane of I-4 was closed during the cleanup and preliminary investigation. Due to the business of this road at the time of day when the crash took place, even the closure of this one lane caused a significant traffic jam that stretched away from the crash site for several miles. Now, while the entire highway is reopened, the Florida Highway Patrol is still working to understand what circumstances led to this fatal crash. As a part of the investigation, the authorities will look into whether or not alcohol or other drugs played any role in the driver’s loss of control.
Citizens of Orlando are well aware of the dangers present along their popular roadways. Every year, hundreds of accidents take place along the streets and highways circling our popular city, and this crash that has taken the lives of two men will be added to a long list of similar such tragedies. The only consolation in this circumstance lies in the fact that no one other than the two men suffered any injuries as a result of the incident.
