A 21-year-old Kissimmee man, along with two others, was injured recently when a driver lost control of her car and crashed into an Amscot branch at 1021 Buenaventura Lakes Blvd. Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating the accident say that the man was in the process of cashing his first paycheck at the check-cashing facility when the car burst through the side of the building and struck him. Two other people at the Amscot branch, a 23-year-old Orlando man and a 36-year-old Kissimmee woman, also suffered injuries in the accident.
Troopers say that the accident occurred around 11:40 p.m. when the driver, a 55-year-old Sanford woman, lost control of her car while leaving the parking lot of a nearby business. They report that the woman was driving her 2007 Hyundai Accent when she lost control and drove across a median separating Buenaventura Lakes Boulevard and continued into the parking lot of the Amscot branch, where she drove over some bushes and into the building. The Hyundai struck the 21-year-old Kissimmee man and pushed him up onto the counter, badly breaking his leg. The other two victims were struck and injured by flying debris as the car entered the building.
The injured man fell from the counter and was lying on the floor when the driver got out of her car and said, "I’m sorry for killing you."
Fortunately, the man’s injuries were not fatal, although surgeons did need to insert a rod and pins into his broken femur. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center after the accident. The driver and the two other victims were taken to area hospitals, where they are being treated for minor injuries. Troopers say that alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but they did ticket her for careless driving and recommended that she undergo driver’s license retesting.
