The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports that two people were killed and two injured during a two vehicle crash that happened in Orange County near Orlando, Florida. According to the FHP, the accident happened early Thursday at around 2:30 am near North Dean and Buck roads. Although the investigation continues and little details are known, it has been confirmed that one vehicle was stopped at a red light when it was rear-ended by the second vehicle. In total, five people were involved in the crash, although it is unclear how many were in each vehicle.
Although in the case at hand we do not know what caused the rear end collision, typically such accidents happen because of:
- Tailgating, or when the one car drives to close to the other and is unable to stop quickly enough when the driver in front comes to a sudden stop
- Driving while distracted, including using a cell phone, sending a text, eating, talking with other passenger or anything else that causes a driver to take their eyes off the road
- Driving while intoxicated
All of these reasons would amount to acts of negligent. This is important because it gives the individuals who were injured (or killed) in the car stopped at the red light the right to seek compensation for their injuries. Common rear end collision injuries include:
- Whiplash
- Back injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Face injuries
- Head and brain injuries
- Wrist, finger, hand and arm injuries
- Seat belt injuries
By filing a Florida personal injury claim, one can seek damages. Damages are a specific amount of money that the person at fault has to pay the injured party or parties in order to compensate them for the costs associated with their injuries, including (but not limited to), medical bills, loss of income, future medical treatment, future loss of income and pain and suffering. Damages can also include compensation for damage done to one’s property, such as their car.
