Reports from the Orlando Police Department are currently lacking much information regarding a car accident that took place on the morning of Tuesday, July 30th, that involved numerous vehicles, including one being driven by an officer with the Orlando Police Department. At this time, what we know is that the crash took place in the eastern lanes of State Road 408, although the exact time of day that the crash took place is not clear, nor is the condition of any of the individuals who were involved in the accident.
It is not uncommon for accidents involving police officers to receive much less reportage than accidents that only include civilians, nevertheless it is important for the information regarding this, and other similar incidents, to reach the general public. With this in mind, it is worth noting that, while most of the pertinent details of the incident remain unknown, we do have some pieces of information that can help provide some information regarding the crash.
In particular, a picture released from a helicopter with the News 6 organization shows the scene in the aftermath of the crash. While it is not clear how long after the initial collision took place that the picture was taken, we can see in it three vehicles, one with significant damage to its front end, and one, a red SUV, with rear-end damage that has been loaded onto a flatbed tow truck. A grey SUV sits beside the tow truck, although it is not immediately clear if this car also suffered from damages as a result of the crash or if it belongs to someone who stopped after the collision to lend assistance.
A patrol vehicle with the Orlando Police Department is in the picture, but it does not appear that this vehicle has any damage to it. It is not known if the officer involved was driving this patrol car, or even if they were on duty, when the accident took place. It is possible that instead they were driving one of the civilian vehicles.
The incident remains under investigation at this time. Updates are anticipated in the near future.
