Five-Car Pileup in Tavares After Collision Between Box Truck and Bus

Police working within the city of Tavares are currently investigating a collision that happened between a box truck and a city bus that resulted in a five-vehicle pileup on Thursday, April 11th. According to reports from the Tavares Police Department, the incident happened sometime in the afternoon, when people were beginning to make their way back from work to their homes.

What exactly caused the accident is not clear, but is seems as though the driver of the box truck T-boned the bus and pushed it out of its lane of travel into oncoming traffic. The driver of the bus and the drivers of the cars now headed directly for it were not able to avoid one another, and the bus and a red SUV struck one another head on. The accident took place along Main Street, close to its intersection with State Road 16, but it is not known if the vehicles were traveling more slowly due to their proximity to the intersection or if the traffic was driving at a higher rate of speed.

It is clear that after the collision between the bus and the red car two other vehicles, a white SUV and a black van, collided into the rear of the red SUV. As a result of the crash, five people were injured. EMTs who responded to the incident transported these individuals to nearby hospitals. No details regarding the individuals involved in the incident were released in the initial reports, and at the time of this writing it is not clear if any of these people are still suffering from their injuries or if they have all been released following the accident.

The report from the Tavares Police Department also failed to indicate whether or not anyone was charged for causing or intensifying the accident due to any sort of negligence. It is not known if the driver of the box truck was attempting to travel through a red light, or if perhaps the driver of the bus failed to notice the box truck entering the traffic flow. Details relating to the incident will become available to the public as the Tavares Police Department continues its investigation.
