A man riding his bicycle in Ponte Vedra Beach is listed in very critical condition after he was struck by a truck recently near the intersection of State Road A1A and Dolphin Boulevard. Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that the 56-year-old victim was southbound in the bike lane of S.R. A1A when the accident occurred. They say that a Ford truck driven by a 43-year-old man, also from Ponte Vedra Beach, was heading east on Dolphin Boulevard and attempting to turn north onto S.R. A1A when he drove into the path of the bicyclist.
Troopers say that the victim swerved sharply in an attempt to avoid colliding with the truck, but the truck hit the rear wheel of the bicycle, and the impact threw the victim from his bike. As he fell, his head struck the pavement, causing severe head injuries. He was rushed to Shands Jacksonville, where is he being held in very critical condition.
Head injuries are especially devastating because victims’ lives are often changed forever. Victims frequently have to endure long and grueling rehabilitative regimens to relearn how to speak, walk, process information, manage their emotions, coordinate their muscles and do many of the things that we take for granted. Many head trauma victims experience profound changes in their personalities, which creates emotional trauma for them and their families. Making matters worse, the costs of hospital and rehabilitative care compound their problems by adding extreme financial hardship to the situation. Many head injury victims are no longer able to work and provide for their families, putting them in a very perilous situation. Most victims in Central Florida seek the counsel of an experienced Orlando bicycle accident attorney to answer their questions and help them through this difficult time.
If you or a close family member have been injured in a bicycle accident, it is very important to speak with an Orlando personal injury lawyer before you sign any documentation. In many cases, the insurance companies that insure negligent drivers try to limit their exposure to liability by offering injured people a modest check in exchange for a signature. When victims sign these documents, they are invariably signing away their right to seek damages against the insurer and the negligent party who caused the accident. Do not let this happen to you! If you have been injured, make sure to speak with an experienced Orlando personal injury attorney such as Mr. Cunningham before you sign anything. He can review the documents and prevent you from making a tragic mistake. Call him today at 800-425-2004 to schedule your free consultation.
