Two individuals found themselves in a precarious situation on Sunday, September 2nd, after the car in which they were traveling ran off of the road and crashed into a retention pond in the Orange County city of Orlando. Reports from the Florida Highway Patrol indicate that it was early in the morning, close to 4:30, and the two were traveling down John Young Parkway, close to where this road intersects with Taft Vineland Road.
It is believed that only the two people were inside of the car at the time, but there is still some confusion as to what exactly happened to cause the incident that resulted in the car leaving the asphalt and driving into the pond. It seems fairly self-evident that it was while the vehicle was traveling near to the retention pond located off of John Young Parkway that the driver lost control of the vehicle. What is unknown is just what happened to cause this loss of control.
While no part of the investigation relating to the specifics of the incident is yet public knowledge, it is likely that the police are working to rule out things such as alcohol or excessive speed as contributing factors to the crash. After this, they will likely look at the road conditions as well as testimony from the two individuals involved to try and finalize the reasons behind the incident.
After the car left the roadway, it landed in the pond in such a way that it began to sink rapidly and completely. Fortunately, both of the people inside of the vehicle were able to extricate themselves from the submerging vehicle and swim to the shore. When police and paramedics arrived, the two reportedly did not claim to be suffering from any injuries and also declined any sort of medical examination or hospitalization.
The crash is still, as indicated above, under investigation by troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol. No charges are currently pending in the incident, and since no other vehicles were damaged it seems likely that the driver of the car might not find themselves facing overly austere financial penalties for the incident.
