An auto accident that took place towards the end of April resulted in the death of a Tampa resident, so say reports from the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident is believed to have occurred sometime during the night of Friday, April 24th, as a 43-year-old Tampa man was driving their car down State Road 574. It is not entirely clear where the individual was going, and we do not know where they were coming from. The reports did not mention whether or not the police believe that alcohol or excessive speed played any role in the incident.
It was shortly before 8:45 at night when the 43-year-old individual was driving down the western lanes of State Road 574. As they drew near to U.S. 301, they approached the light that governs the intersection of these two busy roads. Also approaching this light was a second vehicle. This vehicle, which was not described in the report, was traveling down the northern lanes of U.S. 301, meaning that the two vehicles were headed towards one another from perpendicular trajectories along the road.
The reports indicated that the light at the intersection was red for those traveling along State Road 574 at the time that the 43-year-old reached the intersection inside of their sedan. For reasons that are not clear, the Tampa man did not stop or slow down for the red light. Instead, they continued traveling as though the light were not there, and as though there might not be crossing traffic.
The driver of the second car is believed to have been traveling through the intersection as allowed by their green light when the sedan suddenly appeared before them. Neither driver was able to avoid a collision after the sedan entered the intersection. The force of the crash caused the sedan to spin out of the intersection and into a traffic sign located nearby.
When paramedics and EMTs reached the scene, they rushed the 43-year-old driver of the sedan to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the severity of their injuries was beyond what the medical teams could fix and the individual was declared dead sometime after arriving at the hospital.
It is believed that the driver of the second car was not severely injured in the incident.
