Orlando auto accident attorney James O. Cunningham has been closely following developments in a May 2010 road rage case that caused the death of an Orlando woman. Since he began practicing law in 1977, he has seen Florida roadways become increasingly more dangerous and has been a strong advocate against road rage and other kinds of driver negligence that often result in tragedy.
An area judge recently announced that a 48-year-old man will serve 22½ years in prison for his involvement in a road rage incident that killed a 30-year-old Orlando woman. Circuit Judge Beth Harlan recently handed down the sentence after prosecutors had requested a 30-year sentence. Jurors in the case found that the man was guilty of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of a fatal accident and reckless driving for the May 2010 incident.
Accident investigators found that the man became angry after another driver pulled in front of him. The man then swerved into the other driver’s lane, forcing him to drive into oncoming traffic, where he crashed head-on into the victim’s car, killing her. After the accident, the angry man kept driving but was followed by a witness who wrote down his license plate number and contacted police.
It is difficult for nearly all of us to understand what could compel an adult to behave in such an irresponsible manner, but road rage incidents occur every day on Orlando-area streets and highways. In many cases, these incidents result in serious injury – even tragedy – for people who are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when someone loses his or her temper while behind the wheel.
When reckless drivers injure other people, they can and should be held liable for their actions. For nearly four decades, Mr. Cunningham has been using his skills, experience and resources to help injured people receive fair and just compensation from negligent drivers, and he may be able to help you, too.
