A collision that took place within Daytona Beach on Wednesday, October 9th, resulted in the death of a 41-year-old individual. At the time of this writing, much of the incident remains under investigation, and as such there are many pieces of information which are still unavailable or simply unknown. What we do know so far comes from reports issued by the Florida Highway Patrol. The FHP has stated that the incident took place early in the morning, around 7:00, as commuters were on their way towards work along I-95.
At this time, a 41-year-old was behind the wheel of a 2014 Nissan, traveling down the southern lanes of I-95 close to New Smyrna Beach. It is not clear if the road was particularly congested at this time or if the roadway around the Nissan was clear of other vehicles. For reasons that are not entirely clear, the driver of the Nissan lost control of the vehicle. It is possible that another driver swerved into their lane, or that a deer or other animal attempted to leap across the road. It is also possible that the driver of the Nissan suffered from some sort of medical emergency and lost control of their vehicle as a result.
Regardless of the exact circumstances, the car left the roadway and, before the 41-year-old driver could correct the course of their vehicle, they struck a tree standing somewhere off of the shoulder.
The force of the collision between the car and the tree was tremendous, inflicting severe injuries on the 41-year-old driver even though she was wearing a seatbelt at the time. It is not clear who called the emergency response crews to the scene of the incident, but when they arrived and began to tend to the badly injured driver of the Nissan they quickly discovered that there was nothing they could do in order to save her. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation as the authorities attempt to discover just what happened within the car to cause the driver to lose control and subsequently collided with the tree.
