A tragic car crash claimed the lives of two young teenage men this past Thursday afternoon when they were involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident in Orange County, just east of U.S. Highway 441.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. in the afternoon on February 22nd, five teenagers were travelling eastbound on Ponkan Road near Apopka when the driver, 19-year-old Amen Allah, lost control of the four-door Ford for unknown reasons. It struck a curb, which caused it to then veer into the westbound lane’s oncoming traffic, on a collision course with a pole that would cause the vehicle to rollover, finally coming to a rest on the side of the busy highway.
Emergency response teams arrived on the scene to find fourteen-year-old G. Hoover and sixteen-year-old S. Hoover, both of Mount Dora, suffering from serious injuries sustained in the accident. Both were transported to local hospitals, S. Hoover the older brother, was taken to Florida Hospital Apopka where, despite life-saving measures employed by medical professionals, his injuries proved too great, and he passed away. The younger Hoover was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he managed to survive for three days, but ultimately passed away as well.
According to accident reports written by the Florida Highway Patrol, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, however, neither of the Hoover brothers were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. “We do not suspect impairment,” Sgt. Kim Montes said. “We got to look at the speed of the driver and the actions of the drivers. This is a single-driver crash, and that driver is at fault.”
There are a number of contributing factors that can lead to auto accidents, even those that only involve a single vehicle. They can include:
- Poorly Maintained Roadways
- Speeding
- Texting While Driving
- Faulty Auto Products/Recalls
