Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigating a recent auto accident on Highway 192 near Deer Park Road involving a Volkswagen passenger car and a four-door Infiniti said that the impact caused the Infiniti to split into two pieces. Troopers say that the accident fatally injured a passenger of the Infiniti, who was thrown from the wreckage by the impact. The victim, a 25-year-old Cape Canaveral man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers report that the accident closed U.S. 192 for several hours while investigators pieced together evidence from the scene.
They say that the driver of the Infiniti, a 25-year-old Cocoa woman, suddenly lost control of her car as she traveled eastbound on U.S. 192 toward Deer Park Road. The Infiniti crossed the median into oncoming traffic, where it collided with the Volkswagen, driven by a 74-year-old woman from La Grange, IL. Troopers say that the driver of the Volkswagen had no time to react and struck the side of the Infiniti, causing it to split into two pieces and eject the fatally injured victim.
The driver and passenger of the Volkswagen, along with the driver of the Infiniti, were taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where they are listed in serous condition with undisclosed injuries. Troopers have not announced charges in connection with the accident but report that charges are pending once their investigation is concluded. If troopers find that the woman driving the Volkswagen was negligent, she could be liable for damages in connection with this fatal accident.
