A car accident took place in Orlando on Tuesday night that has left a 19-week-old baby in critical condition. The crash happened close to 9:45 in the evening at the intersection of West Washington Street and North Orange Blossom Trail. According to the spokesperson for the Orlando Fire Department, Ashley Papagni, the crash involved two vehicles, although it is not known whether or not either of the vehicles contained any additional passengers or if either of the two drivers were injured in the accident.
Wanda Miglio, the spokesperson for the Orlando Police Department, has also released a statement which detailed the age of the child (19 weeks), and adding that the child’s condition upon admittance to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children was considered critical but stable. Papagni added that the child was admitted as a trauma alert, although it did arrive at the hospital showing a distinct and clear pulse. During the statement, it was also noted that the child was not properly secured in a car seat during the incident, a fact which likely intensified the already grim situation.
Responding emergency teams to the incident included the Critical Incident Stress Management team, which is a branch of the Orlando Fire Department. They were on hand to assist the firefighters in debriefing the incident. This seems to indicate that the accident was a violent one from which recovery even for those not directly involved was going to be difficult.
Again, at this point it is not known in what condition any of the other individuals involved in the accident are currently positioned or if there were any fatalities as a result of the crash. At the very least, it seems possible that those involved in the accident are going to be suffering from some injuries as a result of the physical trauma experienced. For the infant, survival is the most important. But even if they triumph over their injuries it is possible that they will suffer from continual health problems as a result of their experience. It is possible that they will need medical care their entire life as a result of this incident.
