At least one person was killed Thursday in a head-on collision in the Orlando area. The fiery crash happened on State Road 60, about three miles west of Yeehaw Junction near Mae Bass Road, in remote Osceola County. According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a five door Lexus was driving east on State Road 60 when it crossed the center lane, hitting a westbound tractor trailer – a head-on collision that caused the Lexus to flip and burst into flames.
The automobile accident killed the driver of the Lexus. According to witnesses, although numerous people stopped, they were unable to help as the fire was too intense. By the time emergency first responders arrived the Lexus was completely engulfed in flames.
The driver of the truck, a 50 year Tampa, Florida native, was treated for minor injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol are still investigating why the Lexus had crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.
As can be seen in this tragic accident, head-on car crashes are always dangerous, particularly when it involves a car crashing into a semi-truck. A head-on collision, also referred to as a frontal collision, is any crash where the front end of two vehicles collide. Because of the speeds often involved and the abrupt nature of the collision, especially when traveling on a highway, the resulting crash is like crashing into a wall – there is no give or absorption of the impact. As a result, head-on collisions often result in tragic deaths or serious injuries, such as:
- Whiplash
- Neck injuries
- Abdominal injuries
- Spinal cord injuries
- Head trauma
- Chest injury
- Foot and leg injuries
Regardless of the severity of the injury, if involved in an Orlando head-on collision, one should immediately seek medical attention. In the case at hand, the driver of the truck, who is said to have suffered minor injuries, did the right thing by seeking medical attention. This is because such common injuries as whiplash often don’t manifest until weeks after the crash. To ensure you are able to receive compensation for your head-on collision injuries, it is essential that you have the medical records to prove causation.
