Traffic homicide detectives with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating the conditions surrounding a severe two-car crash that killed four people and seriously injured another on July 30, 2021, near the intersection of Beeline Highway and PGA Boulevard.
According to early collision reports from the responding officers with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, it was shortly before 4:30 p.m. last Friday afternoon when 17-year-old Christopher Garrett Jr. and his two passengers, 17-year-old Alexia Simpson and 14-year-old Jay’Oni Leonard, were in a 2019 Nissan Rogue driving recklessly in the northern direction of Beeline Highway. As the out-of-control SUV approached the highway’s intersection with PGA Boulevard, it sped through a red light and crashed into the left side of a 2010 Nissan Xterra that was being driven by Elizabeth Anderson. The force of impact was so great that it caused the Nissan Xterra to rollover violently along the grassy median, ejecting and fatally injuring Anderson in the process. Her 65-year-old passenger was also killed in the accident.
Palm Beach County emergency response teams transported 17-year-old Christopher Garrett Jr. and 17-year-old Alexia Simpson to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, however, due to the severe nature of her injuries, Simpson passed away shortly upon arrival. His other passenger, 14-year-old Jay’Oni Leonard, died at the crash site. The 17-year-old driver remains in the hospital in critical condition. He was the only person who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, however, authorities have since indicated that he was driving under the influence of a controlled substance and will certainly face legal charges from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office once they have completed their investigation.
