Florida Rollover Accident Claims the Lives of Two Men in Broward County

Homicide detectives with the Davie Police Department have started an investigation into a fatal rollover collision that occurred in Broward County on August 11th, 2020. Preliminary reports indicate that the deadly crash happened along University Avenue after a motorist turned directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Additional key details have started to emerge, allowing authorities to slowly start piecing together a timeline of events leading up to the crash.

It was approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday evening when dispatchers with the Davie Police and Fire Rescue were first notified of a severe rollover accident near the 2700 block of Griffin Road, close to its intersection with Southwest 73rd Avenue. According to Lt. Mark Leone, one of the first officers to arrive at the scene, a white Kia sedan was traveling westbound along Griffin Road when they attempted to either make a U-turn or a left turn through traffic. It was at this same time that a driver in a Ford Mustang approached the area coming from the opposite direction. As the Kia was maneuvering through the intersection, the Mustang crashed into the side of the sedan with such force that it caused the sedan to rollover violently, ripping the roof off in the process.

Upon arrival, local Broward County emergency response teams immediately rushed to assist the driver and passenger of the white Kia who were suffering from serious life-threatening injuries after the collision. After attempting to revive the passenger of the sedan for multiple minutes, the victim was sadly unable to recover from the severity of their injuries and he passed away at the scene. The driver was pulled from the crash and was quickly transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The driver of the Mustang was uninjured in the collision.

The identities of the deceased men are being withheld pending further investigation and next of kin notification.
