Florida Church Van Crashes in Canal

A community was shaken last month when a church van carrying 18 people crashed into a canal in rural south Florida. The crash near La Belle in Glades County killed eight people and injured many others. The driver of the van missed a stop sign at an unlit T-intersection, and ended up driving the vehicle across four lanes and through tall grass into the canal.

The driver and seven passengers were killed, and the pastor was hospitalized in critical condition. The group was returning to the Independent Haitian Assembly of God after taking a trip to a church in Fort Meyers for Palm Sunday.
