A report from the Florida Highway Patrol has put forth the facts relating to an accident that took place at the intersection of County Road 42 and Third Street this past Friday in Lake County. The report indicates that the accident took place in the mid-afternoon, close to 3:15, and involved a Dodge van and a Jeep SUV. While neither of the names of the individuals involved were released to the public, the report did include plenty of pertinent information that gives us the majority of pertinent details.
The Dodge van was traveling down County Road 42’s westbound lane and the SUV was going the opposite direction on the same road. As the two vehicles came to the intersection of County Road 42 and Third Street, the driver of the Dodge decided to make a left turn off of County Road 42. This turn required him to cross over County Road 42’s eastbound lanes, a fact which should not have been a problem except that either the driver of the Dodge did not see the Jeep or they felt that they had enough time to make it across the Jeep’s path before it became too dangerous.
Regardless of what was going through the mind of the driver of the Dodge, they did indeed continue on with their turn despite the proximity of the Jeep. The driver of the Jeep also either did not see the Dodge or did not have time to stop and the two vehicles collided with one another. The Dodge was about halfway through the intersection when the Jeep slammed into its right side, causing tremendous damage to both vehicles and injuring both motorists.
Emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after the collision took place and attempted to help the occupants of both vehicles. The driver of the Dodge, who was not wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred, was the more badly injured of the two. The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the extent of his injuries was too great for medical treatment and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the SUV was also inured, however it is believed that these injuries were minor.
