September 18, 2018

Either on or close to September 9th, police with the Florida Highway Patrol working with Orange County responded to reports of an auto accident along State Road 417. It is not clear who called the police regarding the crash, and it is possible that the collision was discovered by a passing Florida Highway Patrol member who was on patrol at the time. When the Florida Highway Patrol and other first responders (including EMTs, paramedics, and members of the Orange County Fire and Rescue service) reached the location indicated, they found a single car that was lying on its roof close to the off ramp that led from State Road 417 to Colonial Drive (also known as Exit 34).

After doing their best to piece together the series of events that led to this single-car crash, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that, to the best of their knowledge, the incident happened while the driver of the car, a 60-year-old, was traveling along the off ramp. For reasons that are not clear, the driver lost control of the car as they were making their way down the ramp. This resulted in the car departing from the roadway.

Before the driver was able to regain supremacy over the vehicle, the car collided with a pole located near to the area. After hitting the pole, the car was knocked off balance and flipped over onto its roof. All of this happened inside of a ditch standing near the roadway, and at the bottom of the ditch was an unclear amount of water. This is the position the vehicle was in when the police located it.

It is not known if the driver was submerged in the water after the car rolled over, but we do know that the injuries they sustained in the incident were severe. Despite the work of the paramedics and other emergency first responders, there was nothing that could be done to save the driver and they were declared dead at the scene of the incident.

At the time of this writing, police are still working to piece together all the different elements of the incident in order to create one coherent narrative regarding the fatal accident.
