A Monday morning collision between a car and a pedestrian within the city of Ocala resulted in large lane closures along a stretch of South Pine Avenue. Reports from the Ocala Police Department incited that the pedestrian accident happened sometime during the morning on Monday, although the reports did not discuss just what time the emergency response teams were notified about the crash nor what time they arrived at the scene. The reports also failed to state just what is believed to have caused the incident.
Based on the wording of the reports that come from the Ocala Police Department’s official Facebook page, it seems clear that more than one individual was injured as a result of the crash. It is not clear how many people, nor whether or not they were all on foot. In most cases of an accident involving a pedestrian and a car, the people within the car do not suffer from any injuries. It is however possible that something happened before, during, or after the crash to cause a person or persons within the car to suffer an injury.
The crash took place in the northern lanes of South Pine Avenue, somewhere between Southwest 24th Street and Southwest 19th Street. While the initial investigation and medical treatment was underway, drivers passing through the area were being asked to reroute themselves around the area in order to give police and medical teams room to work. The north lanes were subsequently closed through this area and drivers passing along the southern lanes were asked to exercise extreme caution.
It is believed that the initial investigation and treatment did not last an exceptionally long time and that the entire roadway was reopened shortly after the accident took place. An extended accident investigation remains underway as authorities attempt to discover just what happened to cause the pedestrian and the car to encounter one another. As a part of this investigation, police will be looking at whether or not the pedestrian was in a pedestrian crossing zone or if the accident happened at an intersection.
No charges are currently pending, although this could change as the investigation continues.
