Late in March, a devastating drunk driver accident took place in Altamonte Springs that resulted in the death of a 9-year-old child. Early in May, a 40-year-old individual was handed DUI manslaughter charges for causing this accident and its subsequent fatality.

The original incident took place on March 29th, at the intersection of Jamestown Boulevard and Montgomery Road within the city of Altamonte Springs. According to the initial report, a 40-year-old individual was driving a Porsche down one of the two roads when it reached the intersection. At this same time, an Acura was headed down another one of these roads. Inside of the Acura were four individuals: two adults and two children.

It is not known if the 40-year-old ran a stop sign or a stop light or if they simply failed to see the Acura turning or crossing the intersection, but it is clear that the 40-year-old inside of the Porsche failed to avoid the Acura and the two cars collided with such force that the Acura was split completely in half. The two children, aged 12 and 9, were in the back of the car. As a result of the collision they were both thrown from the vehicle. It is not known if either of them were wearing seatbelts, but it is also not known if seatbelts would have even mattered due to the severity of the impact.

Emergency response crews rushed to the location, with EMTs and paramedics doing everything possible to try and assist the badly injured individuals at the scene. The 12-year-old child, while seriously injured as a result of the crash, was able to be transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. It is believed that he continues to physically recover as fully as possible. The 9-year-old was not able to be revived. They were declared dead at the scene of the accident.

The investigation into the crash determined that the 40-year-old driver of the Porsche was both speeding and intoxicated at the time of the accident. It is not known if any trial date has been set or just how many charges this individual faces.
